Organized; the ability to place your hands on something of value exactly when
you need it. I love this definition from Cathy Sexton, the Productivity Enthusiast. If you have not heard her 20 minute information rich interview on taking your office
from “Clutter to Clean”, go here.
I work with quite a few clients on their procrastination issues around organization. One of my basic questions is; what will you gain by this…their answer; more time. What will you do with that that time…more work!
No wonder they are balking. I had a boss like that once, where the better
I performed, the more departments he gave me to run, without any other acknowledgement (you know, money). So I quit. And that’s exactly what the part of you might be
doing when you ask it to be more productive and organized just so you can give it more work to do…it’s quitting on you.
Today; 12-1pm-interview requests, 1-2pm-design class. This is a sample
from my schedule today. If either activity gets done before its allotted end
time, I do not rush into the next activity, instead I take that time and do something enjoyable; read a few more pages from
the current book I am into, just close my eyes and breathe, walk up and down the stairs a few times to get my energy up.
What about you? Are you always rushing from one task to the next? Are you becoming
organized just so you can get more work done? I thought the whole idea of organization was to give you more time to do the
things you want to do instead of the things you have to do…and that is exactly what the part of your personality thinks, too. That’s why it has quit on you.
